"Bro. Stubbs"

Herewith is one of those mysteries we'd like to solve:

A letter from an O. R. to Paton appears in the February 15, 1911, World's Hope announcing the death of "Bro. Stubbs of Shelby," Michigan. Stubbs is not mentioned in early issues of ZWT, but Paton wrote that he "was among the first subscribers to the HOPE."

Can you help us put a first name to Stubbs?

Using available search criteria there was only one Stubbs from Shelby, MI, who died around 1910-1911. This was George Stubbs, farmer, born in England in February 1831, immigrated to America in 1864 and died 21 November 1910. His family are on Find a Grave, but there is no indication anywhere of his interest in Paton's theology. A search of the newspaper database linked to Ancestry yielded nothing.
