The date is significant because CTR and Jones were already falling out theologically. They had been close friends, CTR attended Jones’ wedding (the first of several) and they also shared business interests. Zion’s Day Star started with CTR’s blessing. But in September 1881, ZWT’s showed a rift appearing. In the article THE BODY, THE BRIDE OF CHRIST, in the September 1881 paper. CTR mentions the Day Star by name and writes: “This is out of harmony with the views presented by our brethren. But is entirely in harmony with the views we have all heretofore held.”
The next month CTR is in New York because his letter to Maria was posted from there, using Day Star headed notepaper. Discussions with Jones did not resolve the growing issues, and in the December ZWT CTR formally warned his readers about Jones in the article AN UNPLEASANT DUTY.

Many thanks Jerome for the update. I'll read both the September and December articles mentioned.
