Liebe Amanda!
Soeben von Lisbeth zurück, finde ich Deine lb. (liebe) Gratulation vor und sage Dir und den Kindern auch in Lisbeths Namen meinen herzlichsten Dank. Leider muß ich Dir auch eine traurige Botschaft machen. Am 15.8. soll unser lieber Kurt beim Zurückbringen einer Meldung vor Fort II bei Kowno (?) gefallen und dort auch begraben sein.
So die Nachricht eines Kameraden. Amtlich haben wir noch nichts darüber. Wie schwer uns das trifft, kannst Du wohl ermessen. Kurt war mir nächst Lisbeth der liebste Mensch. Ich kann es noch nicht glauben, dass er nicht wiederkommen soll. Besonders hart trifft es natürlich Mutter, doch genug davon.

Coming back [Return mail] from Lisbeth, I find your dear congratulation, and I say a hearty thank you to you and the children, also in Lisbeth´s name. [in behalf of]
Unfortunately, I have to deliver some sad news to you. As I heard, our dear Kurt, while bringing back a message, fell before Fort II near Kowno and was buried there. So the [According to] information given to us by a comrade. Officially, we haven’t got anything yet. You will imagine how hard a blow this is to us. Kurt was, next Lisbeth, the human being I loved the most. I am still unable to image that he will never come back. It hits mother particularly hard. But enough of that.
