Hark the herald angels sing!

This brings back memories of childhood where I attended school assemblies before Xmas. Mum was a Witness but dad wasn't, so I was expected to attend these but wouldn't sing. Other kids resented me because they didn't want to sing either!

Wikipedia has a useful commentary explaining how this piece developed from Charles Wesley through Whitfield, then on to Mendelsohn. (Might have spelt these names wrong!) This blog has illustrated that it was also adapted for Bible Student use. I have no wish to revive this one however. Still, standing out as different did me no harm and prepared me for bigger challenges. "We are not the sort that shrink back."

Son of Ton

P.S. After 35 years of opposition and indifference, dad eventually became a brother.
