Checking him out on Ancestry, there may be an error in the name as recorded in the newspaper. Ancestry gives his full name as James MOORE Littell, born 11 May 1852, Rye, Sussex, UK, immigration to USA 1872, arrived in Allegheny in 1875. Married Ada Mary Cox in 1878, and was a “clerk in store” in 1880 census. Died 9 February 1896 as reported in the news clipping. There is a suggestion he suffered from Parkinson’s disease at time of death.
Buried in Union Dale Cemetery – see reference:

Both Conley and Russell invested in a store with Littell. In 1886, executions were brought against Littell, the gent's furnishing merchant, and filed in the Sheriff's office for a total amount of $14,435.64. Of this total, Conley was owed $8,500 and Russell was owed $315.
