For my museum project

Some of you know of this, and some will not. Be that as it may, I need to identify this coin [or perhaps a jeton]. I appreciate any help you can render. Click image to view entire.

Update: Tentatively identified as a jeton from the Spanish Netherlands dated to 1596. I cannot confirm this. Can you?

A nice view of both sides of this coin in a much better state can be found at the following address of a Swiss auctioneer :

https://nomosag.com/default.aspx?page=ucAuctionDetails&auctionid=13&id=19&p=1&s=&ca=19&type=auction

There you can find the following description of the coin :

“Netherlands, The Dutch Republic. Jeton (Silver, 29mm, 6.17 g 1), on the repulse of the troops of the Archduke Albert from Zeeland and Holland, 1596. (rose)FRVSTRA.OPPVGNAT.VSQVEDVM.PROTEGIT.DEVS (=they attack in vain those God protects) Shield, held by hand of God emerging from clouds, protecting kneeling people and Dutch troops from the Spanish army. Rev. (rose)VIGILATE.ET ORATE.DEO.CONFIDENTES.CIƆ.IƆ.XCVI (=be watchful and pray, putting confidence in God, 1596) Hebrew name of Jehovah in clouds and rays; below, the Dutch Maid, kneeling in prayer within an enclosure; to left, soldier standing guard; to right, tower with soldier holding a sword. Van Loon I, p. 465, 1. Very attractively toned and well struck. Some areas of weakness, otherwise, extremely fine. ”

Your identification is thus correct.

By the way this coin is described and pictured on another site presenting a collection of objects with the name of God :

It is possible to find easily other references by searching the inscription : Vigilate et orate deo confidentes.

dear brother, I confirm that this medallion was made for the victory over "zealand" (hollande) in 1596 A book written in French in the year 1782 "Metallic history of the 17 provinces of the Netherlands" mentions this medal and actually see a picture.
Another book made in 1812 also speaks of it.
You can find the book here :

the number of the page in the book is 465
have a nice day
