I suppose if JFR could substitute for a judge, he could substitute for a schoolteacher, too.

Although I'm not sure I'd want to be a student of his, subject to his discipline!

I had no idea Rutherford was a schoolteacher, very interesting reference. Thank you for sharing this.

How interesting! I don´t remember this was ever mentioned in Watchtower publications (was it)? Thank you for telling!

Wow, that is extremely interesting.

He was 18 at the time in 1887, and just two years later he went into law. Seems like teaching and encouraging others was always in his blood.

Thank you for sharing.

The level of interest in this "filler" has been encouraging. It should be noted that there is a question mark after the word "Schoolteacher." This is because this story is as yet uncorroborated, although I have no real reason to doubt the anecdote.

The question I have been asked back-channel, is how did I find this item? Answer: the way most "great discoveries" are made. By accident. I was looking for something else at the time.

This is completely irrelevant, but the gentleman in the newspaper clipping, Lee Rapp, looks like an older AH Macmillan.

Lee Preston Rapp (1873-1958) had an obituary in the Franklin County Tribune when he died. It says "He received his education in Morgan County where he was born." So the location fits.
