I need as much information as you can find ...

About a Methodist Episcopal clergyman named Stephen D. Trembley. He served Prattsburg and Cohocton, New York from the mid 1830s into the 1840s. He owned the B. T. Hawkins sawmill and adjacent property, in 1840, organized the first Sunday school in Bristol, New York.

I know very little beyond this, and any stray fact will be helpful.

“The first meetings of the Wesleyan Methodist Church were held by Rev Stephen D Trembley who organised a class in the Gulf school-house in the south-east part of the town in 1831. Jacob Winnie and wife, Jessie Bartholomew and wife and John Pauling and wife were among the first members. The Haskinville circuit was formed in 1855 by Trembley. He was pastor at the Church from 1855 to 1858 when he was succeeded by CC Reynolds”.

Stephen’s grandson was was Frank Brown, senior partner of the firm Frank Brown and Son, nurserymen located in section 22 Paynesville township. Stephen was married to Ruth and they settled in Stearns county, Minnesota in 1863.
Re: Congregational Presbyterian Church at Paynesville, Minnesota. The congregation there was regularly organised on 29 July 1866. On 3 August 1867, a call was made and accepted by Rev S D Trembley to be its first pastor. (From: History of Stearns County, Minnesota Vol 2)

I can’t find Stephen or Ruth in the 1870 census, but there is a Pamela Trembley born 1801 at Stearns county.

Is this the same as the S. D. Trembley who was pastor in New York?

The first quotation is from "A History of New York".
I also have a few references to SDT being at various conferences at New York in the 1840/50s
Could there have been TWO Rev Stephen D Trembleys?

A little further research suggests that the Minnesota and New York Trembley may the same person. The New York based S. D. Trembley was born in New Jersey in 1799. [1860 Census - New York]

1839 to 1845 - New York Land Records, 1630-1975 notes a residence in Ontario County, New York.

Further records found in the NY Land Records archive has him living in Allegany, New York in 1862.

The 1901 Minnesota death record of his daughter names his wife as Pamelia. The 1855 New York State Census names his wife as Pamelia. Certainly the same person living alternately in New York and in Minnesota.

Thanks for your help! I can't find a death date.

As noted earlier, Pamela Trembley was recorded in the 1870 census at Stearns county, Minnesota aged 69, birthplace New York. The absence of Stephen in the census suggests that he may have died between 1867 and 1870.
